“Council is deeply committed to investing in communities right across the Shire, including our smaller towns like Waaia,” Benedyka said. The $855,000 state-of-the-art project was a three-way partnership between Council, the Waaia community and the State Government. The Victorian Government, through Sport and Recreation Victoria’s Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund, contributed $692,000, Moira Shire Council gave $133,000 and the Waaia Recreation Reserve Committee of Management’s share was $30,000. Representing Sport and Recreation Victoria at the opening was Jenny Sloan, while Denis Brooks spoke on behalf of the Waaia Recreation Reserve Committee. Brooks thanked the Waaia Football Netball Club team who drove the project, as well as the club’s long-term supporters, Sport and Recreation Victoria and Council.
