Andrea Johnson’s resignation as head of the Independent Directorate Against Corruption (Idac) was not merely a career decision. Resigning before formal removal should never become a convenient escape route from accountability. If the Madlanga commission uncovers evidence of misconduct, disciplinary, civil, or even criminal processes must continue, regardless of whether she still occupies the office. Otherwise, resignation simply becomes an elegant exit strategy. The Madlanga commission must continue its work without fear or favour.
