He played an instrumental role in Mayo’s first All-Ireland final victory since 1951, where he scored five points including a pair of two point efforts. His teammates Darragh Beirne & Jack Carney were also nominated for their roles in Sunday’s win. O’Donoghue was named both Midwest Radio and RTÉ man of the match on Sunday.
