The Hollywood Foreign Press Association the former operators of the Golden Globe Awards, has filed a lawsuit accusing Penske Media of orchestrating a “clandestine” plot to seize control of the glamorous awards show. The HFPA is seeking “at least” $150 million (A$215m) in damages and a court order cancelling the acquisition of the Golden Globes’ assets, rights and properties. As a result, NBC pulled the 2022 Golden Globes off the air and the HFPA was later officially dissolved. “This case arises from a clandestine scheme to fraudulently acquire the prestigious and valuable 80-year-old Golden Globe Awards, destroy their founder and former owner, the HFPA, and exert monopolistic control over the Hollywood trades, awards, and advertising markets,” the complaint states.
