The South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL) is making a significant shift in its procurement strategy, moving away from contractor panels to open tender processes for routine road maintenance and engineering consultancy services, Cape {town} Etc reports. This change comes in the wake of recent court challenges that deemed the use of contractor panels unlawful and unconstitutional. Demana revealed that following litigation matters surrounding contractor panels, SANRAL is committed to launching a new tender process without delay. ‘The incumbent contractors remain in place until 30 November 2026, and SANRAL must ensure uninterrupted road maintenance during the transition,’ he explained. The agency had previously managed routine road maintenance through a network of approximately 251 contractors.
