House prices expected to rise again as supply fails to meet demand

House prices are expected to rise by a further 5% over the next year, according to a new survey of estate agents, with affordability continuing to be a major challenge for prospective buyers.
The latest Residential Mid-Year Market Monitor from the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI) found that 92% of estate agents believe current residential property prices are either expensive or very expensive, while supply continues to lag behind demand across much of the country.

SCSI Vice President Emer Byrne said the housing market remains characterised by an imbalance between supply and demand, despite an increase in housing completions and a modest improvement in the number of homes coming to market.
