The Florida Everblades, the new ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, acquired the ECHL rights of goaltender Gabriel D’Aigle, from the Penguins’ former ECHL affiliate, the Wheeling Nailers, via a trade Tuesday evening. D’Aigle is entering the first year of a three-year entry-level contract with the Penguins but finished the 2025-26 campaign with the Nailers on an ECHL professional tryout contract. Following the conclusion of the season, the Nailers named D’Aigle to their protected players list, a maneuver that locked up his ECHL rights for the 2026-27 campaign, regardless of who the Penguins’ ECHL affiliate was. D’Aigle, 19, is expected to serve as the backup — if not platoon mate — to Cam Johnson with the Everblades next season. “(D’Aigle) wants to stop pucks,” Penguins director of player development Tom Kostopoulos said during the team’s development camp in June.
