Dundee United legend Maurice Malpas made 830 appearances across an incredible 21-year career at Tannadice. Malpas helped United reach the European Cup semi-finals the following season and the Uefa Cup final in 1987, where they lost to IFK Gothenburg. Ahead of the match against Rangers, a special Maurice Malpas stall was set up at United’s annual open day to sell testimonial memorabilia. United replaced the Frenchman rather than risk being reduced to 10 men. Over two decades, Malpas gave Dundee United everything and he hung up his boots as one of the greatest servants in the club’s history.
