Captain Derek Brown built a life around two lifelong passions – repairing almost anything that was broken and flying almost anything that could leave the ground. That determination carried him from an engineering apprenticeship in Dundee to the flight deck of commercial airliners, before a third career dedicated to improving aviation safety with the Civil Aviation Authority and easyJet. He attended Blairgowrie High School, where his fascination with engineering and aviation was already taking shape. For a time, three generations of the Brown family flew together from Tayside Aviation at Dundee Airport before Lindsay followed his father into aviation by joining the RAF. Instead, he embarked on a third career with the Civil Aviation Authority’s safety department at Gatwick.
