The smart buildings specialist said the district network will utilise heat from a new waste incineration project developed by the city’s municipal utilities authority. Johnson Controls EMEA president, Richard Lek, said he hoped the project would highlight the potential of waste heat sources in developing energy-efficient communities. The project, which is due to begin operations in 2027, will recover heat from flue gases using a custom heat pump and six screw compressor units. “By teaming up with Johnson Controls, we’re further driving momentum in the heat transition and paving the way toward a more sustainable future,” said Bruder. Johnson Controls is also working on a number of clean heating projects in Germany, including a 60MW wastewater project in Hamburg, a seawater heat pump in Holstein and another waste incinerator system in Stuttgart.
