Raipur: Defence minister Rajnath Singh has indicated that the Chhattisgarh government’s proposal to create ‘Bastar Regiment’ in the Indian Army is under examination.
“Your (Mr. Sharma’s) letter dated June 26, 2026 regarding the proposal to create a Bastar Regime in the Indian Army has been received.
The matter is under the process of examination”, Mr. Singh, in his letter, written in Hindi, said.
Mr. Sharma, in his letter, has justified the proposal, citing the bravery and valiance of the local tribal youths in Bastar region in the counterinsurgency operations.
Such a move would not only generate employment for the tribal youths of Bastar region but also instill a sense of patriotism and pride in them for becoming a part of Indian defence forces, he said.
