Baxi surveyed over 400 care home leaders, finding widespread support for low-carbon heating systems but a lack of expertise and funding optionsA survey of care home managers by the heating solutions firm Baxi has found strong support for clean heating but a desire for more advice and funding support. The firm estimated that 17,000 care homes across the UK were producing around 1.5 million tonnes of CO2 emissions a year, with 40% of these coming from heating, cooling and lighting. Based on the findings, Baxi recommended the Government introduce specific schemes and ringfenced funding for care homes as well as offering specialist guidance to the sector. Just under 90% of homes surveyed who had not already decarbonised had plans to do so, said Baxi. Baxi concluded that, in addition to new funding schemes, care homes should be assisted in addressing the skills gap for decarbonisation projects and provided with databases of specialist developers.
