MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Piedmont Heart at Lakeside Commons is expanding its services with a new vein clinic designed to diagnose and treat superficial vein disease.
Dr. Amy Kingman, a cardiologist with Piedmont Heart, said the clinic is intended to help patients experiencing symptoms such as leg swelling, aching, skin discoloration and varicose veins.
She said leg swelling is not always caused by vein problems and can also be linked to medication side effects or conditions affecting the heart, kidneys or liver.
If left untreated, superficial vein disease can lead to complications including varicose veins, skin discoloration, cellulitis and venous ulcers.
