Nigeria’s wait for a gold medal in the men’s 100m at the Commonwealth Games continues as Kayinsola Ajayi won bronze in the event at the ongoing Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
This is coming 20 years since Nigeria won its first and only medal in the men’s 100m at the games through Olusoji Fasuba.
At the games in 2006, Fasuba secured the country’s first medal, a silver.
For the 2026 games, Ajayi was the only Nigerian athlete to scale through the semifinal from the three that made it to the stage.
This was after throwing a distance of 63.27m in an event won by Canada’s Camryn Rogers, who threw 74.91m, a new Games Record, to secure the gold medal.
