LABOR TRY TO STAY CALM AND CARROLL ONDepending on who you want to believe, yesterday’s decision by Victorian Labor to dump Jacinta Allan and install Ben Carroll as the new party leader, and state premier, will either revive its chances in November’s election or simply be another nail in the coffin for the current government. After Allan had decided against completely destroying her party by standing in a leadership contest, Carroll immediately announced upon becoming premier a royal commission into alleged corruption in the taxpayer-funded Big Build, tried to talk tough on crime and helpfully told us he wasn’t either of his predecessors (which he wrote down in order to remind himself, seriously).
