The Borders para-swimmer had already won a silver medal in the men's 100m freestyle S13 on day one of the competition.
And he followed it up with the top prize on Tuesday evening (July 28), which was his first Commonwealth gold.
Clegg, from Newcastleton, told the BBC afterwards: "I think I swam beyond myself today.
"You want gold, everyone wants gold, but I was prepared to not win gold."
And the Borders athlete admitted he felt emotional when he got out the water and realised he had won gold.
