This 1930 Duesenberg Model J is one of approximately 481 examples across all variants of the Model J platform built between 1928 and 1937 and is said to have been delivered new with six-window Willoughby limousine coachwork. Development of the Model J began after E.L. Cord’s 1926 acquisition of the Duesenberg Motor Corporation gave Fred Duesenberg the impetus to attempt to design the fastest and most powerful production car the world had yet seen. The Model J debuted at the December 1928 New York Car Show and soon after entered production with a claimed top speed of 116 mph and a starting price of $8,500 for a rolling chassis. Willoughby and Company bodied at least five cars for the White House during the presidencies of Coolidge and Hoover. Engine number J-368 is stamped on the crankcase and is utilized as the identification number on the title.
