By Jared ReddingOxford head football coach Chris Cutcliffe stated that Region 2-7A was equivalent to the SEC in terms of elite football. Behind a stout defensive effort and a ground attack led by Demar Jamerson, the Chargers (5-1, 1-0 Region 2-7A) edged out a 16-14 road win over the Madison Central Jaguars. Madison Central led 7-6 following a successful extra point with just a few seconds left in the opening quarter. Michael Thompson’s 42-yard field goal late in the third quarter gave the Chargers a lead they would ultimately hold onto. They’ll be back in action on Oct. 17 when they host the Germantown Mavericks and resume Region 2-7A play.
