Andy Burnham promises 'no dead ends' for North East youngsters faced with unemployment crisis

(Image: Temilade Adelaja/PA Wire)Andy Burnham has promised that there will be “no dead ends” for thousands of young people across the North East facing joblessness when they leave school.
The North East has the highest rate in England of 16 to 24-year-olds who are NEET – 21%, totalling more than 64,000 young people, according to latest Government figures for 2025.
North East mayor Kim McGuinness’ top demand of Mr Burnham has been to hand her major resources to help solve the youth unemployment crisis.
Ms McGuinness said: “This is a region where we have always had a tradition of technical education – people wanting to learn a skill, learn a trade, learn a craft.
