July 21, 2026 (NAIROBI, Kenya): IGAD convened the Third Forum of Special Envoys and Representatives under the theme, ‘Harmonizing Regional and International Mediation Efforts for the Sudan Peace Process.’ Lawrence Korbandy, IGAD Special Envoy for Sudan, delivered a scene-setting presentation on Sudan’s evolving political and security situation. This was followed by reflections from Special Envoys and interventions from members of the Quintet. Participants considered measures to strengthen coordination among the Quintet, the Quartet, Special Envoys and other mediation partners, while sustaining momentum towards a peaceful political settlement. These engagements form part of IGAD’s continued efforts to harmonise regional and international mediation initiatives and strengthen collective support for peace, stability and an inclusive political transition in Sudan.
