New Jersey removes thousands mistakenly registered to voteTRENTON, N.J. (WPVI) -- New Jersey's governor said Tuesday the state has started removing thousands of people who were mistakenly registered to vote. Last week, Governor Mikie Sherrill announced that a software glitch at the Motor Vehicle Commission improperly registered 6,600 non-citizens to vote in 2023. On Tuesday, the governor said more than 4,500 people who were mistakenly registered through that method have been removed. The announcement comes on the same day that the governor and lieutenant governor celebrated the recently passed "John R. Lewis Voter Empowerment Act". That legislation enacts comprehensive voting rights protections in the state of New Jersey.
