A Baltimore case could have broad implications across Maryland over how inspectors general conduct investigations and gain access to government records. It will likely take a month for a judge to decide whether to dismiss Cumming’s lawsuit over access to city records in order to independently conduct investigations related to city government. OIG attorneys contend the lawsuit is about whether an independent watchdog can be stripped of the resources it needs by the very entity it’s tasked with investigating.
