More infoCorroded and deteriorating posts and chains which form the 144-year-old railings of a well-known Derby landmark are to be replaced and refurbished at a cost of just over £230,000. Derby City Council has applied for listed building consent to carry out the refurbishment which is being paid for by the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA). It is being proposed that the railings are removed from the site and assessed one by one by a conservation contractor. Councillor Carmel Swan, city council cabinet member for climate change, transport and sustainability, said: "I know how important these railings are to our community. "The railings are an important part of the city's streetscape and character when travelling into or out of Derby on Duffield Road.
