South Western Railway (SWR) and Network Rail Wessex have introduced a temporary timetable between London Waterloo and Exeter St Davids on the West of England line to address safety concerns caused by prolonged extreme hot, dry weather. The changes are a result of unstable clay embankments between Salisbury and Exeter, which have been drying out and compromising track stability. Under the amended timetable, services between London Waterloo and Salisbury will continue every 30 minutes, with one train per hour running to Yeovil Junction. Every other hour, that train will continue on to Exeter St Davids. Last summer’s timetable disruption prompted investment in strengthening the line.
