Assistant Treasurer Daniel Mulino says he supports newly appointed Victorian Premier Ben Carroll’s decision to call a royal commission, but has suggested delaying the inquiry until after the state election. Carroll said one of his main priorities in the lead-up to November’s election will be creating a royal commission into alleged corruption on government-run construction sites. Speaking on the ABC’s Afternoon Briefing, Mulino noted that royal commissions are complex and time-consuming, arguing it would be “better to do it properly”. “My understanding is that one of the first key things that he [Carroll] pointed to was setting up a royal commission. I think doing that after the election to me makes sense and is something that will resonate well with the Victorian people.”
