Mr. James “Dewey” Scott, Jr., age 86, of Douglas, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. Dewey was born September 18, 1939, in McRae, Georgia, to the late James Dewey Scott, Sr. and the late Audrey Towns Scott. Dewey leaves behind his loving wife of 64 years, Othell Cliett Scott of Douglas, Georgia; his son, Jimmy Scott and wife, Jan, of Hazlehurst, Georgia; three grandchildren: Ben Scott and wife, Catie, of Elgin, Oklahoma, Jared Scott and wife, Hillary, of Douglas, Georgia, and Anna Scott of Athens, Georgia; four great grandchildren: Will Scott, Izzy Scott, Charlie Scott, and John Scott; three sisters: Irene S. Varnadoe of Griffin, Georgia, Carolyn S. Purvis of Douglas, Georgia, and Betty S. Corbitt of Douglas, Georgia; along with a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Active pallbearers will include Ben Scott, Jared Scott, Will Scott, Geoff Cosgrave, Joey Wooten, Andy Purvis, and Lee Cliett. Dewey’s arrangements have been entrusted to the kind and compassionate staff of Ricketson Funeral Home, Inc. of Douglas, Georgia.
