The Fargo Airport Authority is in early talks about transitioning into a Regional Airport Authority, a move that would expand its tax base and board representation beyond Fargo city limits into all of Cass County.
The Fargo Airport Authority was established on April 8, 1969, and currently operates with a five-member board funded by property taxes levied exclusively within the city of Fargo.
“I found a brochure here a couple of weeks ago about the regional airport authority effort that was taking place back then,” Dobberstein said.
Under North Dakota Century Code, creating a regional airport authority requires matching resolutions passed by both the City of Fargo and Cass County.
In exchange for joining the authority, Dobberstein said local county government would gain a seat at the decision-making table.
