North Dakota Highway Patrol Captain Bryan Niewind on The Flag’s What’s On Your MindFARGO, N.D. — Following a fatal head-on collision near Jamestown that claimed two lives, law enforcement officers are again reminding drivers about the lifesaving importance of wearing seatbelts. Speaking on The Flag, Captain Bryan Niewind of the North Dakota Highway Patrol expressed the ongoing frustration officers face when responding to preventable traffic fatalities. “We still have way too many crashes that are happening here in North Dakota with a lack of seatbelt use,” Niewind said. “In rural North Dakota, it’s volunteer firefighters, it’s volunteer ambulance crews,” Niewind noted. He confirmed that all North Dakota State Patrol vehicles are equipped with dash and body cameras, adding that the public has a right to record officers from a safe distance.
