Libraries are on the ballot: It’s critical we vote yes

By Ron ChewSeattle Public Library trusteeMy passion for the craft of storytelling began during my time as a reporter with the UW Daily.
The Seattle Library Levy will be on the August ballot as Proposition 1, a $479.76 million package that accounts for one third of the SPL’s overall funding for the next seven years.
And, if approved, the 2026 Library Levy will represent only 7% of the total property tax a homeowner pays.
This levy vote comes at a time when equitable access to information and education are under threat from federal cuts.
The stakes of this election are clear, and for this reason, the Yes Seattle Libraries campaign has garnered support from a diverse array of organizations and individuals.
