Zimbabwean military officers to learn from Rwanda’s security and governance

Zimbabwean military officers are visiting RwandaA group of officers from the Zimbabwean Military Academy are on a two-week visit to Rwanda with the aim of further strengthening military cooperation and gaining knowledge on Rwanda’s unique journey in building security and governance.
Today, the group visited the Ministry of Defence and the Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) Headquarters, where they were received a detailed briefing by the Director General for International Military Cooperation and Spokesperson of the Rwanda Defence Forces, Brig Gen Patrick Karuretwa.
He spoke to them about the reasons, origins and the journey of rebuilding the Rwanda Defence Forces where he explained the journey the RDF has gone through from a national liberation army to a professional army contributing to the development of the country.
Gen. Karuretwa also highlighted the RDF’s role in peacekeeping operations across Africa and its role in promoting stability and security in the region.
During the remaining days of this study tour, the group will also visit various other government institutions to understand more Rwanda’s governance and its social and economic development.
