Kenneth Barnes, 50, received a ten-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, last November, on charges relating to the downloading of indecent images of children. He was also made subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SPHO) and registration as a sex offender, both for ten years. Barnes, of Charles Street, Easington Colliery, appeared back at court in May accused of three further indecent images offences, said to have taken place on dates up to January 30 this year. He denied the charges and a trial was fixed to start on September 28, with Barnes remanded in custody in the meantime. He admitted all three counts, relating to a total of 1,282 images, with 350 both moving and still, in the most serious category for such material.
