Labour councillor Alec Brown for Kirkleatham has pledged to bring the Warrenby tip in Redcar, shut down in 2012, back into use if the party retains control of Redcar Council in May 2027. Alec Brown, Labour councillor for Kirkleatham, made a statement on social media on Monday (July 27): "We not only pledge but promise to reopen Warrenby Tip." They have accused Labour of making an "uncosted" promise that cannot be properly scrutinised before going to the Resources Committee. "Reopening Warrenby would massively increase capacity and also help alleviate the fly-tipping that costs the council so much money every year. Anna Turley, Redcar MP, also backed the pledge, stating: "Labour's promise is clear: if we are returned to run the council next May, we will reopen it."
