Digital ID cards are to take the form of an app-based system, similar to bank cards or the NHS app stored on mobile phones.
It is understood digital ID will be compulsory to anyone wanting to work, but cards will not be required to be carried every day.
Out in the city centre we asked people if they would welcome new digital ID cards.
But Connor Anderson says introducing digital ID won't stop people from wanting to work.
