Dorset Museum and Art Gallery has launched a £3,500 fundraising appeal to repair the Hayden Princess, a 1901 traction engine weighing 11 tonnes that has become a favourite at events across the county. Claire Dixon, director at Dorset Museum and Art Gallery, said: "The Hayden Princess isn’t just Dorset Museum’s largest artefact, it’s a living piece of history. Unlike most industrial exhibits, the Hayden Princess remains an active crowd-pleaser, appearing at steam rallies, county shows and heritage events across Dorset and beyond. Jack Miles purchased the engine in 1964 and preserved it until it was bequeathed to Dorset Museum & Art Gallery. The museum said: "Every donation will help secure the future of the Hayden Princess and ensure the engine remains a treasured part of Dorset’s cultural heritage."
