Forestry England, the land manager for the park's Crown Lands, announced plans to introduce charges at all 129 car parks in the central Crown Lands, covering about 50 per cent of the park. The NPA, which doesn't own any of the land, has no power to approve or refuse the scheme as it is classed as permitted development, not requiring planning permission. The authority also isn't entitled to any of the income generated from the car parking charges. She also called for a concession scheme for locals to ensure the park remains accessible, while expressing concerns about potential parking displacement impacting wildlife, habitats, local communities and the working forest. Additionally, she advocated for minimal infrastructure changes to preserve the park's unique character and landscape.
