Railway staff at East Midlands Railway (EMR) are set to strike over what their union claims are "growing safety concerns" that have not been properly addressed. The dispute, which reportedly began in April, revolves around the new fleet of Aurora trains, which the RMT union alleges have been operating with a "significant number" of faults. EMR highlighted railway reliability and maintenance problems with the new Aurora trains, which have been manufactured by Hitachi, as ongoing issues. The Aurora trains, after a three-year delay, were introduced into passenger service last December. Meanwhile, the boss of East Midlands Railway, Will Rogers, has left his role with "immediate effect."
