A Minnesota auditor/treasurer is facing felony charges after a criminal complaint alleges that she transferred ownership of her dead brother’s property to her mother and herself. According to investigators, Todd County auditor/treasurer Denise Gaida, 59, is charged with two felony forgery counts and one gross misdemeanor misconduct count. Court documents say that Gaida’s brother, identified as DS, died on Sept. 16, 2024. Investigators say that this raised red flags because the claim was dated in July before his death, but not filed until over a month after his death. If convicted, Gaida’s maximum prison sentence is 10 years and her maximum fine is $20,000.
