Hargeisa (WDN) — Somaliland police have arrested a murder suspect who allegedly fled across the border after a fatal killing in Ethiopia’s Somali Regional State, marking another example of growing cross-border security cooperation between authorities in the Horn of Africa. The suspect, Najax Hassan Muse, is accused of killing Abdikarim Muse Osman in Abdi Yusuf, an area within the Daroor district of Ethiopia’s Somali Region (formerly known as Region Five), before escaping into Somaliland. Cross-Border Security Cooperation ExpandsIf Somaliland authorities proceed with transferring the suspect to officials in Ethiopia’s Somali Regional State, it would mark the third cross-border handover of a Somali murder suspect to Jigjiga authorities during July alone, highlighting an apparent increase in judicial and security cooperation between neighboring administrations. Only days ago, Puntland handed over another murder suspect wanted by Ethiopian authorities after officials from Jigjiga crossed the border to take custody of the accused. In a separate case earlier this month, another suspect wanted for murder in Ethiopia’s Somali Region was arrested in Mogadishu before being transferred to Abudwaq in Galmudug, a town near the Ethiopian border.
