To the editor:I’m glad Patrick White enjoyed the concert at Ozawa Hall and hope he will enjoy many more in the future, but Chad Smith liking the Josh Billings Runaground race has nothing to do with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. The Stockbridge Select Board may be happy because the town will make more money off pop concerts during a shoulder season at Tanglewood, but this has nothing to do with the artistic crisis facing the BSO and its musicians. And the benefit concert by Manny Ax and Yo-Yo Ma was a typically generous gift from them personally and has nothing to do with Chad Smith and his idea of educational outreach. I won’t review all the controversy surrounding the red-flower protests, but I’ll just say that Chad Smith’s ham-handed management of the BSO and its affiliates is of great concern to many of us who already love classical music in general and this orchestra in particular.
