Lee — With a full boardroom, the Planning Board reconvened its public hearing on July 27 on a requested permit for a four-story Fairfield Marriott at 165 Housatonic Street. Members were keen on aligning the project with a New England-style design after the development group submitted revised plans and responses to board member questions on July 24. However, the 50-foot height proposed for the building remained a sticking point for board members and residents alike, with that height approved by special permit only. Board members eyed photographs of other Marriott brand endeavors, including Great Barrington and Lake George lodgings that boast three stories, albeit in a longer footprint. Board member Conrad Decker inquired as to the narrowness of the parking lot aisles and suggested that width would not allow for the turning radius of a fire truck.
