On Saturday, July 25, at La Tierra de La Culebra Park in Highland Park, Minaret Records put on the show of the summer, and it was free. Minaret Records is spearheaded by Yusuf Hilmy and is quietly building Los Angeles’ most exciting community around the indie jazz label he founded in 2019. To paraphrase what they say in the jam band scene, if you don’t like the free jazz, wait five minutes. Their goal is simple: “to grow and maintain the park as a vibrant artistic hub for Highland Park.” Not so for Minaret Records.
