Rose describes the last three decades with the winery as a wonderful time to be a part of the Hill-Smith Family Estates and broader wine industry, with one defining moment after another. “I started just as Australian wine was really starting to grow both domestically and internationally, and we found new wine lovers and markets. Some of her most defining moments were her promotion to Head of Winemaking in 2006 and Head of Sustainability in 2023. Recognising leadership, innovation and achievement across the Australian wine industry, the honour reflects not only her longstanding contribution to Yalumba, but also her broader influence through work with the Australian Wine Research Institute and as a wine judge at competitions across the country. Across three decades in wine, not only has Rose’s role evolved, but also the general role of sustainability within the industry.
