The Hunter Transmission Project has been approved, marking what’s being described as a critical milestone for New South Wales’ energy transition. The project will deliver a new 110-kilometre, 500 kilovolt overhead transmission line running from Bayswater, near Muswellbrook, to Olney, near Eraring, connecting into the state’s wider electricity network. Subject to Federal Government approval, construction is expected to begin in late 2026 and be completed by late 2029. Minister for Climate Change and Energy Penny Sharpe said the project is one of the most important in the state’s history. “The Hunter Transmission Project is one of the most important energy projects in NSW because it will help keep the lights on as ageing coal-fired power stations retire,” she said.
