Social cuts, rising costs as govt wages war on the poor

Opposition Leader Ralph Gonsalves described the current government’s actions as “waging war on the poor,” specifically contrasting his own past leadership style with the current administration’s policies.
He characterized the shift in governance by comparing himself to a “loving Santa Claus” and the current leadership to an “evil Grinch”.
He argued that this, combined with rising gasoline and diesel prices, is creating a situation where families must choose between basic needs.
He warned that this lack of proper maintenance funding leads to power outages that cause poor families to lose food like “chicken wing and turkey wing” to spoilage.
Gonsalves concluded that despite what he called “smoke and mirrors and camouflage,” the NDP administration is actively waging a war against the most vulnerable citizens.
