The initiative continues adaptive management of Colorado-Big Thompson Project operations intended to improve Grand Lake’s clarity while balancing water delivery, power generation and environmental needs, according to Northern Water. Before the construction of Colorado-Big Thompson, visitors could see about 30 to 40 feet into Grand Lake. “This 30-year MOU reflects an unprecedented commitment to Grand Lake’s health and the long-term future of the Three Lakes System,” Grand County Commissioner Chair Edward Raegner said in the release. The agreement follows nearly two decades of collaboration among local, state and federal partners to improve Grand Lake’s clarity and the health of the Three Lakes system. Secretary and Director of the Three Lakes Watershed Association Jeff Metzger said that decades of efforts to improve Grand Lake’s clarity have led to the landmark agreement.
