The city of Steamboat Springs is prepared to accept seasonal tree limbs and give them a second life for free, according to a Tuesday news release. Teaming up with the Routt County Wildfire Mitigation Council, Steamboat Resort and SavATree, the four organizations are hosting a community event to provide free chipping of aspen, cottonwood, evergreen and spruce tree debris on Saturday August 22, 2026. Accepted materials include trees, tree branches, small diameter logs and brush (cut away from root mass). Community residents can drop off tree debris to Steamboat Resort’s Meadows Parking Lot between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on August 22, 2026. Apex’s Milner Landfill is offering a “lower-than-landfill” rate for residents to divert yard wasteat the organics area of the landfill at $55 per ton.
