[]
KLBJ-AM – Austin, TX
A months-long investigation by the Austin Police Department has led to the arrest of eight people and the dismantling of what investigators describe as an organized criminal enterprise tied to mail theft, identity fraud, drug trafficking, firearms offenses, and other crimes.
During a traffic stop on May 25, officers arrested Matthew Smart on an outstanding credit card abuse warrant connected to the jewelry store case.
Police said the traffic stop and a subsequent search of the apartment uncovered evidence related to mail theft, fraud, and drug trafficking.
On July 2, officers arrested Matthew Herrington and Jennifer Jeansonne on outstanding warrants during a series of traffic stops.
Overall, APD says the investigation resulted in eight arrests on charges including mail theft, identity theft, narcotics trafficking, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and possession of counterfeit mail keys.
