(ABC 6 News) — Minnesota IT Services (MNIT) has activated a statewide response after the department said more than 30 Minnesota community water systems were impacted by a cyberattack.
According to MNIT, the attack occurred on July 26 and July 27.
“Cyberattacks against critical infrastructure require a coordinated, whole-of-government response,” said John Israel, MNIT Assistant Commissioner and Minnesota Chief Information Security Officer.
“MNIT is working side by side with our partners to share intelligence, support affected communities, and help utilities restore operations safely while strengthening defenses against future attacks.
At this time, MNIT said they are not aware of any active requests from Minnesota cities to have their residents modify their drinking water usage.
