NELLORE: District Horticulture Officer MV Subba Reddy on Tuesday urged Nellore lemon farmers to enrol in the Weather-Based Crop Insurance Scheme (WBCIS) to safeguard orchards from El Niño-driven risks. Supported by the state and central governments, the scheme offers insurance coverage up to Rs 1,20,000 per hectare against climate risks like heatwaves, excess rainfall, and high humidity. The premium is fixed at Rs 2,429 per acre. Farmers can register through Village Secretariats or CSCs using land certificates, bank details, and identity documents before the extended July 31 deadline. IFFCO-Tokio General Insurance Company is implementing the scheme.
