The Nao Victoria Foundation hoped to bring the replica ship to Harwich to be used as a visitor attraction during July. Nao Victoria was a carrack famed as the first ship to successfully circumnavigate the world. Victoria was part of the Spanish expedition to the Moluccas commanded by Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan. Harwich Town Council discussed the logistics of welcoming such a large ship but decided the town's facilities were unsuitable. The Harwich Haven Authority was unable to accommodate the depth of the vessel at the town's Ha’penny Pier.
